#SRCELECTION: Electoral body screen candidates

Electoral Committee 

The Student Representative Council Electoral Committee headed by Mr Rotimi Aiyepegha has commence preparation towards the forthcoming SRC election in Olabisi Onabanjo University Consult, Abeokuta study centre.
This preparation kick start with screening aspiring candidates and disqualifying anyone who is not deemed fit to contest.
However, there were cold feet, shivers and unease moments within the aspirants as each of them took courage to face the panel of the electoral body.

The chairman of the SRC electoral committee pleaded with the candidates to be of good conduct and also reminded the candidates that the electoral body reserves the right to disqualify any candidate who does not adhere to the rules and regulations adopted by the electoral committee, and also candidates may be disqualified if their GP does not meet the required number set by the committee.

The chairman also took his time to highlight the available positions which are:

  •  SRC President
  • Vice President
  • General Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Welfare 
  • Financial Secretary 
  • Sport Director
  • Social Director
  • Public Relations Officer.

During the course of screening, some candidates highlighted their agendas and promises if elected into office.

An aspiring candidate identified as Solomon Alapa promise to serve the students and school management diligently if elected as Treasurer, he further vowed to be transparent with the Council’s treasury account without any misappropriation of funds or embezzlement.

Another candidate identified as Amuda Soqid who is a presidential candidate commented on the settings of the school environment, according to him, the students are not allowed to operate freely, he also threw shade at the current acting SRC President, in his words:

“Zeezco does not have the courage, he cannot make decision. As a leader, one need to be able to take up challenging task and profer solution. 

He also promised gender equality amongst the students.

After all candidates took turn to face the unrelenting questions from the electoral panel, the chairman assured the candidates that the electoral team will discharge their duties sagaciously.
The chairman also appraise the candidates for their courage and beseech them not to commence their campaign until the date stipulated by the electoral body and also warned candidates to conduct their campaign with a well mannered behavior as any form of nuisance will not be condoned and such will lead to automatic disqualification.

In addition, the chairman stressed the need for a bias election, thereby stating that the election process will be an E-voting system and students will be able to vote for their preferred candidate with the use of their School Identity Card.
