Gunmen ambush police patrol team in Bayelsa

A police patrol team has been ambushed by suspected gunmen at Kolo-Ogbia road, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

According to report gathered, a riffle belonging to a police inspector who was injured in the attack, was taken away.

SP Asinim Butswat, the police spokesman in Bayelsa State confirmed the incident and also stated that only the inspector sustained an injury. He added in Bayelsa State Police media WhatsApp group, that an investigation is ongoing. 

Butswat wrote; 

“Police officers who were conducting stop and search operations along Kolo-Ogbia Road, were attacked by gunmen suspected to be cultists, on 11 October, 2021, at about 2245hours.

“A Police inspector was fatally injured and his riffle was carted away. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the gunmen and recover the stolen riffle.”
